Last February I had a hip replacement operation performed by Mr Batra at Oaklands Hospital...following this very sucessful operation I needed a knee replacement ( on the same side of my body) For many years my the bottom half of my leg was at a very distinct angle to my knee...causing extreme pain and noticeable limp. Before being referred to Mr Batra other Consultants at a different hospital were cintent to give me yearrly pain killing injections.!! But immediately, upon seeing my walk towards him Mr Batra commented upon my gait ( at this time I had only been Xrayed for my hip jount. We disccussd every detail with Mr Barta and I knew...with 100% confidence in him, that he would be capable of replacing my knee....totally transforming my life in every way...I had always been so concious of my visible "limp" ...somehow making me feel much older than my years.I served as a "front line" Police Officer for 33yrs prior to.my retirement and had always led an active life....but over the years my leg was certainly restricting me.My care at Oaklands was extremely caring and reassuring , by all the staff...far in excess of what I coukd have ever imagined...as Mr Batra and the staff treated me under the NHS....I would certainly recimmend Mr Batra...and all the staff at Oaklands to anyone reqiring medical attention.....Sorry for the length of this comment...but I feel the need to exoress my true honest feelings towards my treatment at Oaklands.

I had a total hip replacement 13/04/18. I'm now 7 months post op. I feel like a new women. I'm back at the gym doing 3 spinning classes a week. I walked up a mountain in Wales called Tryfan at New Year and just booked a walking holiday in Madiera for March. A big thank you to Mr Batra Jacquie Hoath

Mr Batra has a very calm and warm manner that puts you at ease when you see him. He has done a fantastic job of replacing my husbands left knee and straightening his leg. My husband did suffer with a lot of swelling so was checked for a D.V.T. which proved clear. Mr. Batra was very reassuring that everything was ok and six months on my husband has made great progress and will see him again in another six months when he hopes to be discharged from Mr Batra's care.

Firstly, Mr Batra was very friendly and approachable, he instilled confidence in both me and my wife and we felt comfortable to ask any questions. He made us feel we were in very safe hands, and we couldn't recommend him highly enough. Our follow up appointments were equally helpful, we never felt rushed or unable to discuss my care. Brilliant experience from start to finish!

Profile

I have been a Hip & Knee Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Salford Royal Hospital since 2010.

I perform Hip and Knee Replacement, Revision Hip and Knee Replacement, Arthroscopic (keyhole) Hip and Knee Surgery, including ACL reconstruction.

I see people with any type of sports injury to arrange diagnostic tests and organise treatment and rehabilitation.

I am one of few Orthopaedic Consultants in the region who has also completed their Sports Medicine Membership exams (MFSEM) with the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. This gives me an unique insight into sporting injuries, training methods sports psychology as well as nutrition.

I am a keen runner and still run in the Vets Category for Sale Harriers with a marathon PB of just over 3 hours. I have played a number of different sports at a good level including badminton and squash for my University.

I am happy to see patients who have sporting ambitions at any level and are struggling to get back to their sport. You will get honest advice about what can and cannot be done.

I understand how important it is for you to be able to continue to do the sport that you love so much and I will do my best to help you achieve this.

I qualified in 1995 from University of Wales College of Medicine with Commendation. I did my basic Surgical Training (MRCS) in Manchester in 1998. I spent three years at the Manchester Medical School conducting research into how cells behave when human bone heals after it has broken, for which I was awarded my PhD. I started higher surgical training in 2003 and passed my FRCS (Orth) exam in 2007. During my training, I did the Bolton Knee Fellowship, Leicester Hip Fellowship and visited the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota to complete a Visiting Clinician’s Fellowship. I completed my MFSEM with The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2018.

Thank you for taking the time to look at my profile.
